Emergency Glass Repair
Broken window? Board-up needed? Storm damage, break-in, tree strike, vehicle impact — we dispatch 24/7 across NJ. 60–90 minute response in Bergen/Passaic/Essex/Hudson; 2–4 hour overnight statewide.
Broken windows don't wait for business hours. Storms hit at 2am, break-ins happen overnight, tree branches fall in winter winds. We run a 24/7 emergency dispatch out of our Garfield shop with pre-stocked emergency trucks — plywood, polycarbonate, weatherproof sheathing tape, common-size replacement glass. Most NJ emergency window calls are secured (board-up + tarp) within 60–90 minutes during business hours, 2–4 hours overnight.
Insurance documentation included free on every emergency call — drone photos, scope photos, and Xactimate-compatible scope writing so your claim adjuster has everything they need. We don't take AOB (assignment of benefits) paperwork; the claim check comes to you, you pay us on completion.
When to call us at 2am
Storm-broken residential window
Same-day tarp + board-up; permanent replacement 3–7 business daysWind-driven debris, falling branches, hail, ice. We arrive with pre-cut plywood and weather-resistant sheathing tape; secure the opening; document for insurance; schedule permanent replacement. Most NJ wind/storm broken-glass claims approve full IGU or full-window replacement at the homeowner's deductible.
Commercial storefront break-in
60–90 minute response window; secure board-up + glass order same daySmash-and-grab, vandalism, vehicle impact. We secure the storefront with plywood overnight, order the replacement glass (typically tempered or laminated per code), and install within 2–5 business days depending on glass size. Police report coordination available; insurance claim documentation included free.
Tree strike / falling branch
Same-day emergency response; insurance documentation includedWhole-tree or large-branch impact on a window. We secure the opening (often more than just the window itself — frame + jamb damage is common), document the full scope for the insurance adjuster, and coordinate with any tree-removal contractor on site safety. Window + frame replacement typically 5–10 business days after claim approval.
Vehicle impact
Same-day emergency response; police-report coordinationCar, truck, or contractor-equipment impact on a residential or commercial window. We assess structural framing damage (often present beyond the visible window), secure the opening, document for insurance + police, and coordinate replacement scope. May require carpentry repair before window install.
Failed IGU seal causing condensation
Not an emergency — schedule 3–7 business day glass-only replacementFogged or condensation-filled glass between the panes is a failed insulated-glass-unit (IGU) seal — not urgent. We can replace just the glass unit (~$200–$450 per window) without replacing the entire frame. Many existing window frames accept new IGUs from the manufacturer. We measure, order, and install in a single 30-minute appointment per window.
First-hour checklist
- Stay back from the broken window — fragments can fall hours later
- Photograph everything BEFORE cleanup (insurance needs the evidence)
- If interior weather exposure is concerning, place towels/buckets to contain water
- Don't touch broken glass with bare hands — use cardboard or thick gloves
- Pets and kids out of the area until we've secured the opening
- Call us at (201) 275-9185 — we'll dispatch a crew immediately
Emergency call questions
How fast can you actually respond?
Bergen/Passaic/Essex/Hudson counties during business hours: 60–90 minutes from the call. Same area overnight: 2–4 hours. Statewide for major storm events: 4–8 hours depending on volume. We dispatch from our Garfield shop with pre-stocked emergency trucks — we're not coordinating with a sub or waiting for a supplier.
Do you board up first and replace later, or replace immediately?
Depends on the glass type and time of day. Standard residential clear glass we often replace same-day if it's a stock size during business hours. Tempered, laminated, custom-shape, or after-hours scenarios require board-up first (1–4 hours on site), then replacement 3–7 business days after the glass is ordered. Board-up is included in the emergency call; replacement is a separate scope.
How much does emergency glass repair cost?
Emergency call-out + board-up typically runs $250–$650 depending on size, height, and time of day (after-hours premium). Permanent replacement varies by glass type: standard clear $150–$350 per window, tempered $250–$550, laminated impact $350–$750, custom shapes higher. Most homeowner and commercial insurance covers emergency glass as a covered peril; we document for claims at no extra charge.
Will my insurance cover this?
If the cause is a covered event (storm, wind, hail, tree strike, vehicle impact, vandalism), yes — typically with your deductible as the out-of-pocket. Gradual deterioration (failed IGU seals from age) is not covered. We help you tell the difference honestly before you file. We don't take AOB (assignment of benefits) paperwork; the claim check comes to you and you pay us on completion.
Do you handle large commercial storefronts overnight?
Yes — commercial storefront emergencies are a regular part of our after-hours dispatch. We carry oversize plywood and laminated polycarbonate for large openings, coordinate with property management or alarm-response companies, and document for both insurance and police if relevant. Permanent replacement of large storefront panels typically 5–10 business days after order.
What about historic-district properties with original wood windows?
We carry replacement-grade clear glass that can be cut to historic divided-light pane sizes for emergency reglaze without altering the historic appearance. For broken sash beyond reglaze, we secure the opening with period-appropriate temporary infill (plywood + paint-matching) and schedule full sash restoration through our historic-restoration crew. HPC coordination available where required.
