Sussex County is NJ's coldest and most rural county — 525 square miles of Skylands ridge, lake communities (Hopatcong, Greenwood Lake, Lake Mohawk), and small downtowns (Newton, Sparta, Vernon). Winter temperatures regularly hit single digits and overnight lows below zero in January — significantly colder than coastal Bergen or central NJ. The upfront cost adder vs. standard double-pane runs 25-40% — and it pays back in 4–7 years on heating bills, plus eliminates the interior-side condensation that single-pane and standard double-pane develop in Sussex winters.

Lakefront communities (Hopatcong, Greenwood Lake, Lake Mohawk, Andover) have substantial original 1900s–1950s wood-sash double-hung that's often worth restoring rather than replacing — the lake-house aesthetic preserves better with restored original wood than with modern vinyl, and interior storm windows deliver modern thermal performance without altering historic appearance.
