My 1920s Tudor has original casements with leaded glass — restore or replace?
That depends on the frames, not the age. If the jambs are true and the sash is sound, reglazing and new weatherstripping keep the leaded lites and the steel-look proportions the house was built with. Where sills or lower rails have gone soft, an insert unit fits inside the existing opening without disturbing interior trim, and we can reproduce the divided-light pattern so the replacement reads correctly from the street. We're near one of the brooks and took water in the basement — what should replace those windows?
Assume the frame took water even if the glass held.
