It changes the details more than the product. Cliff-top and river-facing openings on Palisade Avenue and Hudson Terrace take higher wind loading than an inland block, so we tighten the weatherstripping and gasketing, confirm the frames are anchored for the exposure, and make sure the seals are rated for it. Fogged insulated glass on a windy elevation usually means the seal already failed once — we swap the unit and correct the drainage so the replacement lasts.
Can new windows quiet the Route 9W and Palisades Parkway traffic?
Yes, measurably. Sylvan Avenue is Route 9W and the Parkway runs the cliff edge, so homes near either pick up a steady traffic drone. A laminated lite paired with a companion pane of a different thickness keeps the two layers from sharing a resonant frequency, which is what widens the band of sound they block; where the frames are already sound, a sealed acoustic insert set inside the existing window is the less invasive route. Our double-pane glass is fogged but the frames are solid — do we replace the whole window?
