Plan on no. Ordinance 2022/18 extends the chapter to all property inside those two overlays, and the Secretary of the Interior's Standards the borough applies prohibit vinyl and aluminum except where they replace already-installed synthetic material and no reasonable historical alternative can be shown. That exception is narrower than most people assume: it is not a general opt-out, and it turns on what is already sitting in the opening. Confirm scope with the borough's Historic Preservation Advisory Commission before ordering anything.
Our Township patio door barely slides — glass or hardware?
Almost always hardware: grit packed in the track and flattened rollers on the postwar township subdivisions. Neither requires touching the door panel or the frame. Haze between the panes is a separate failed seal, and we handle both on the same visit rather than making you book twice.
Is there a fix for cloudy double-pane glass short of new windows?
There is, and it is the usual one here. The cloud is a failed edge seal — 15 to 25 years is what a sealed unit is good for — and the failure is confined to the glass. Frame, sash and trim stay put. We size it on the visit out, give Garfield 2-5 business days to build it, then fit the new unit into the existing opening in about thirty minutes.
